Hello everybody. We were lucky enough to get to fish today and our half day inshore trip turned into a full day inshore. That was fine except that I forgot sunscreen and figured it wouldn't be a big problem since we were going to be back before noon. When 2 rolled around and my forehead was hurting I knew I was going to be the sunburned Gringo in Quepos tonight, but we landed 3 Roosters and a nice Amberjack, so the extra time was well spent.
We were really waiting for the bite to turn on around 1 when the
tide started coming in, but that didn’t happen. We caught most of our
fish in the morning, and all of them on light tackle. What a blast!
I caught the first Rooster, dad caught the other two and the Amberjack.
Dad’s Rooster was the biggest of the three, a 50lb beast.
Raulito, the son of Raul from Costa Mar Sportfishing, came with us and
almost had a Rooster and what we think was a big Snapper. It went
straight to the rocks and broke him off. His Rooster got off after a
huge fiasco as we tangled up lines, cut and spliced them back together
and still had the fish on. That was a bummer. He had never caught a
Rooster.
On the way in, we stopped at the surf and tried for some Snook that
weren’t having it. But fishing in the surf in the Precedent sure was
interesting. Fishing in a 36’ boat that needs to get up and go in a
hurry when a swell comes can be a little nerve racking. But fun
nonetheless.
I have yet to talk to Jerry about the mini fishing tournament and how
the second group did, but I will talk to him tomorrow about it… so
we’ll see then.
We are fishing all day offshore tomorrow, hopefully we will se some Sailfish action!
