Fishing Report

July 27th: Tuna, Dorado and Some Wahoo

Quepos fishing is looking good right now for those looking to have some fun and put Tuna steaks on the table. There are a lot of boats catching their fill of Yellowfin Tuna in the 10 to 30 pound range. Boats are also reporting a decent Mahi Mahi bite and a few Wahoo here and there. Inshore fishing for Roosterfish and Snapper has been pretty decent over the last few days, but heavy rains have been affecting the water a bit. As I look out my window right now it looks as if we could have a nice little storm coming in off of the water at around 8am, which is not too uncommon for this time of year. As many people here say, if it doesn't rain in the morning this time of year it will almost definitely rain in the afternoon. We'll see.

July 20th: Wahoo, Tuna and Marlin

Quepos Fishing has been picking up offshore a bit in Quepos lately but slowing down a bit inshore due to some rough inshore waters.

Boats fishing offshore are reporting back a steady bite of Sailfish, Tuna and Wahoo, with some Marlin in the mix in the last few days...

The Big Eye released a Marlin yesterday, and the Oaran II lost a 500lb+ monster on an offshore Quepos fishing charter.

July 3rd: Clean water, big Tuna, seeing some Marlin

As the water cleans up we are seeing some nice Quepos  fishing action in the beginning of July.

Boats have reported some nice Tuna lately... bigger than the normal football sized morsels of late. They have also been raising a good number of Sailfish again and releasing Marlin.

Talk to you soon,

June 28th: Water clearing up, Sailfish, Tuna and Dorado

Hello everybody, I was at the docks for the first time in a while today and there were a good bit of boats going out. There was a storm hanging on right offshore and it eventually moved ishore and rained for a while in Quepos. I hope it didn't affect the guys fishing... we'll see.

The red tide has seemed to hang around a little longer than we thought, but boats are still catching fish where there is good water.

The Magic Moon  brought home two Sailfish on a half day trip yesterday and the Ojaran II brought home 3 Dorado and 4 Tuna on a full day offshore Quepos fishing charter.

For a little more information on the red water that can change the fishing report drastically, check out the popular link "What is the red tide?" above.

Hope everyone is well... talk to you soon.

June 24th: Fishing solid, water still a little red

Hello everyone. Quepos fishing is pretty good right now and a lot of people are here to enjoy the fun. Quepos is packed with people, which always makes for a good time. We are catching Sailfish, Dorado and seeing some Marlin out there. I haven't heard of anyone running into the Tuna since a few days ago, but they may be catching Tuna too.

I took a drive to Jaco to eat at a friend's restaurant and the water is still marbled with red as far as the eye can see, but the fishing has been good, so no complaints.

The 32' Hatteras Blue Pearl fished Quepos with Captain Juan Carlos and Memo (our mate from the Precedent) two days ago and released a Sailfish, caught a Dorado and had a Marlin but couldn't get him to the boat.

I haven't fished in over a month and I think I might be going a little crazy. I need to get out on the water badly.

Also, remember that anyone booking a charter through us for the months of June, July and August will have 25% of the profit donated to the Alma relief fund. The new restaurant Marlintini's that is opening up next weekend will also be donating all of their proceeds from opening night to the fund, so come check it out on June 28th at 7:00pm. It should be a good time and it is definitely for a good cause.
