Merry Christmas everybody. It was pretty amazing spending Neko's first Christmas with the family that cares so much about her. Thank you to all of the people who made such huge efforts to spend time with Neko on her first Christmas Day.
On another note, Santa has not fully dropped down the Quepos chimney with a sack full of sailfish lately. Although we are having a pretty typical sailfish bite, I thought Santa would come through with a bammer on Christmas. There are tons of boats catching sails, and many still slaying the YFT and Dorado.
The Precedent reported catching 12 YFT on the 24th. Tom Levinson was the angler and he said that they raised 3 sailfish on their trip, so the sails are here.
On December 22nd, Young Choi on the Moon Walker and landed 3 Dorado and released a sailfish, according to Leanne from Quepos Sailfishing Charters. On December 23rd, Choi fished on the Frenzy and realeased 1 marlin, 9 tuna and 3 sailfish!
Jerry from Luna Tours said that fishing had been super slow, but picked up today with the Ojaran III landing a 300 pound Blue Marlin and some Dorado! The Ojaran II caught a 45 pound Rooster on a half day inshore trip. And the Magic Moon caught a Sailfish and some Dorado. The Moon Walker caught a Sailfish on a half day offshore trip. It's great to see some boats reporting great days!
Although it might not be cranking like we would like... you know, those "I'm taking a nap on the trip home" days where you are just sick of reeling at the end of the day... but it sounds like we're moving in that direction.
January is almost here and overall we have seen a December that better than years past. I think January is going to be pumping!
