There comes that time on a really long road trip when you get off of the interstate for the last time and you realize... we're here!
That is what fishing has been in the last few days. There are a ton of Sailfish being caught, still a good bit of Dorado... even some Yellowfin Tuna. We are also seeing some Marlin still being boated. The Marlin bite this season has been off the charts!!! Captains are reporting an average of 6 Sailfish and at least one edible species being boated per day in the last few days.
Here is the report for January 20th from Jerry...
The Magic Moon boated 9 Sails and a Dorado. The Moon Walker released a Rooster, a 35lb Grouper and 2 Sea Bass. On a hell of a half day trip the Ojaran II boated 4 Sailfish. The Ojaran III had a full day of reeling with 7 Sails and 3 Dorado.
To top off the sick offshore bite that is going on, we have an inshore bite that is going off! The Snook, Roosters and Corvina (Sea Bass) are putting a hurting on the inshore anglers! Ojaran III landed a 45lb Snook and 3 Roosters on the same trip just the other day!
To give you an idea of how the billfish bite is at the moment I have included the stats of the recent fishing tournament out of Los SueƱos Marina. This is a huge tournament every year, this year 42 boats competed. Over three days there were...
"406 billfish released by the competing boats. The marlin bite has been just amazing,as I have been reporting. The 42 boats released 134 Marlin over those three days."
This information, taken from a reporter at the tournament shows how nasty the Marlin bite is right now. 42 boats... 3 days... 134 Marlin... that is over a Marlin per day for each boat!!!
If you have ever caught a Marlin you know how sweet these numbers are. A Marlin in a lifetime is a great feat. A Marlin each day is a whole different thing.
